Mother, son hang selves in Ponda

PONDA: A mother and son hung themselves to dead in their house at Nagzar-Ponda on Monday. Yeshwant Venji, a casual labourer with a cement baluster maker in Ponda, said that his son Amresh, 29, was mentally ill and under treatment and due to this illness his wife (Amresh’s mother) Sukanti, 42, was depressed. Sukanti had threatened on several occasions that she would end her life, police said. Police said Venji found them hanging from the ceiling fans of their house in the afternoon .

The police have retrieved the dead bodies and preserved them at the GMC mortuary for autopsies to be conducted on Tuesday. The case has been registered as unnatural death under Sections 174 of criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) at the Ponda police station.
